At the beginning of 2020 I hit my head real hard when out on my cyclocross bike. The years after were rough; I was constantly tired and had trouble using screens. My balance was terrible and I often felt like I was falling over. I lost most of my social life and wondered if I had the mental fortitude to grow old like that.

After more than two years of trying all kinds of things, I finally went for the hail mary and signed up for treatment with Cognitive FX (link) in the USA.

It worked. If you've never been through something like this, there is no way of explaining what it means to regain fundamental human faculties. Think of losing a sense and then getting it back.

A big part of the recovery program is done by you, at home. I exercised my body and my brain, by myself, for over a year. I found that some exercises involved someone else helping me. My wife being at work during the day, I figured I might learn a new programming language and try to help myself.

Perhabs is the result of me creating exercises for me. At the time of writing this software, it represented to me the possibility that, perhaps, I would get better. If nothing else, I would have learned to write software in Rust.

I got better. And if you find this and use it, I hope you do too.
